HADDONFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS
ELEMENTARY SUMMER READING 2010
June 17, 2010
Dear Parent or Guardian:
The
The district’s
Adventures in Summer Reading list
along with Suggested Response Activities can be found on Mrs. Babcock’s e-board.
The list contains suggestions only; there are no mandatory titles for
students exiting first through fourth grade.
Students are encouraged to explore a variety of printed materials
including books, magazines, manuals, journals, newspapers, brochures, pamphlets,
maps, advertisements, and catalogs.
The Summer Reading Log
contains the summer reading goal for each grade level along with a place to
record dates, titles, and time spent reading.
Children entering first
grade are not formally included in the summer reading program; however, parents
are encouraged to expose their children to all types of print material, read
aloud daily to their children from a variety of printed materials, share their
thinking about the text, and enjoy the resulting conversation.
We encourage children to
engage in any of the suggested response activities and/or participate in the
films, crafts, guest presentations, rewards, and prizes offered by the
Haddonfield Public Library.
A key objective of the
Elementary Summer Reading Program is to foster positive attitudes about reading.
Have Fun!
And
Remember to:
ü
record your child’s reading throughout the
summer.
ü
return the Summer Reading Log during the first
week of school in September in order to receive a Reading Achievement
certificate.
