E-Books on the Web

Even though e-books have been around for many years, their use is rapidly growing in both popularity and availability.  This growth is driven by the increased sales of products that can display e-books.  Examples of these devices are e-readers (eg. Amazon's Kindle, Barnes and Nobles's Nook, and Sony Reader), tablets (eg. Apple's iPad and Samsung's Galaxy), and phones (eg. Apple's iPhone and Android-powered phones).  E-books can also be read on desktop or laptop computers.  Regardless of the device used, a software that is compatible with the format of the e-book must be loaded.

Below are links to "projects" on the web that have brought together e-books and made them available.  Many e-books no longer fall under copyright protection and are therefore available for free.  E-books that still receive copyright protection are available for sale and are sometime available for viewing because the author or publisher are offering them under a limited licensing agreement.
